Why Robotics? Just ask Forbes magazine. It gives the answer under the title: "Why Kids Learn Better Playing with Robots". Most of time spent in every class is hands-on learning through automation and robotics: students learn how to code and have their robot play out their commands while constructing them with gears, sensors, and more. No coding experience necessary!


Pick one or more from the following: 
1. LEGO WeDo 2.0 Robotics: LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 makes science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and coding come to life. The unique combination of the familiar LEGO brick, along with new parts and pieces that make their robots come to life, like gears, sensors, and blue tooth technology.  We use the LEGO kid-friendly software with “drag and drop” coding blocks, along with engaging, standards-based projects results in a resource that builds students’ confidence to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions by putting STEM learning directly in their hands.


The LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 curriculum and kits are built on Next Generation Science Standards and deliver key science content to first through fourth grade students. The curriculum facilitates and supports an easy-to-follow journey through life-, physical-, earth- and space sciences, and engineering. Features 17 guided and Project Based Learning for up to 45 hours of instructional content.


2. LEGO EV3 Robotics: The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Core Set contains the software and elements to start teaching STEM subjects to middle school students through robotics. LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 enables students to build, program, and test their solutions based on real-life robotics technology. Through hands-on learning, LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 will enable your students to: understand forces and motion; graph and interpret rotation sensor data; develop robots capable of spacial thinking using logical structures and sensor feedback; understand that complex systems are created from subsystems; and design, build and program a fully-functioning robotic system.​


3. TYNKER and CODE.ORG Game Coding- Intro to Computer Programming: In today’s digital world, coding is a fundamental skill alongside math and reading. Build video games, create digital animation, design greeting cards, and more; through code.org and tynker.com, Our instructors utilize engaging programming curriculums and projects with “drag and drop” visual blocks. These can build up to the more traditional programming languages like Python or Javascript. We introduce exciting activities with music and colorful graphics while we learn code, so children can learn the programming concepts they need to code in any language without all the frustration. With code.org and Tynker’s courses and activities, kids have fun while they learn, so they stay engaged and continue learning and creating.


3. Minecraft Game Coding (NEW!!):  A village is threatened by fire and needs you to code a solution! Meet your coding helper, the Minecraft Agent, then program the Agent to navigate the forest and collect data. This data will help the Agent predict where fires will occur. Then code the Agent to help prevent the spread of fire, save the village, and bring life back into the forest. This is one lesson among many where your K - 5th grader learns the basics of coding and explore a real-world example of artificial intelligence (AI).  In today’s digital world, coding is a fundamental skill alongside math and reading... have your child jump in without fear and have FUN while:

  • Getting a high-level understanding of how Artificial Intelligence can be used to collect data
  • Creating coding solutions that include sequences, events, loops, and conditionals
  • Decomposing (breaking down) the steps needed to solve a problem into a precise sequence of instructions


5. Hands on Science: Hands On Science Adventures (3rd - 5th) and Little Hands On Science (K - 2). Science isn’t science unless it’s hands-on! Calling all K - 2nd graders and 3rd - 5th graders who love to explore using their senses. Students will be exposed to chemistry and the physical and life sciences by using the scientific method and inquiry. Students will be encouraged to formulate questions, gather data and draw conclusions. Most activity involves projects to be taken home and shared with loved ones.


6. Comic Book Heroes: Have your comic writers take their imaginations to the limit with either one or two courses. Students learn all about the basic story structure of modern comic books, and after two courses, they will create a short graphic novella. Students start with introduction to the history and fundamental composition of contemporary sequential art. We read sample comic books and describe elements of the story and its characters. The students then learn and illustrate Character Development - Primary Characters and Protagonists, Secondary Characters, Antagonists, and their relationships to each other. 


There is World Building with real-world examples of heroic people (in history or fiction) and The Call to Action - Plotting the story from beginning to end for a 10 page comic book. Students will consider key points in character interactions and how their protagonists will behave as they lead the story, then they will continue enveloping each scene with Story Beats, using climaxes, resolutions and cliffhangers. Story Beats ends the first course. Students can continue with the second course using Layout Sheets and Designing Panels that lead to the final project: Publishing their very own Hero Comic Book. Enrollment into the first Comic Book course (or a similar one) is strongly recommended before the second course.


7. Rocketry: You think you need to visit Cape Canaveral to experience rockets? Just step into Rocketry camp! Using NASA's own educational curriculum, ACL students as young as 1st grade all the way up to 8th grade have plenty of hands-on activities around Newton's laws and the physics of motion.  The last day of class is Park day, where we launch our homemade water rockets and and gun-powdered Estes rocket.

Enrichment Course Descriptions



1. Culinary Kids: Cooking and Culture Kinder - 3rd graders and 4th -8th graders will be introduced to the world of cooking through stories AND recipes! Did you know that there are dozens of ways that one staple, like rice, can be prepared...and so yummy every time!  There are new ingredients, a story, and a new country introduced each day. Take-home meals (for a family of 5) can be made for an additional $10/class


*Let us know of your little cook's allergen or specific diet, and we can see how we can find an alternate recipe or include the substitute that you bring to class.


2. Ceramics: Fire it Up! Is your learner a budding artist? Fine tune his/her creative skills by handing them some clay as their blank canvas to mold into their own design.  Techniques will be introduced along the way for our sculptors to build with their hands.


3. Music Appreciation and more!: Our own talented music teacher, Mr. Jonathon, teaches the basics of music and music appreciation while introducing a few different musical instruments.  The last day is an evening performance that friends and family are all invited to.


4.  Theatre Corner and Performance Night: A screen writer and  award-winning actress, Ms. Dawn coaches our young drama queens and kings and turns them all into a company that gives their own performance by the last day of camp
